Cruise Control has stopped working!
« on: January 04, 2017, 07:40:34 pm »
So after immediately having my steering wheel changed and replacing the steering wheel control module.. my cruise control has stopped working. Im sure ive coded it correctly however no luck  it came up with the code 00895 - Cruise Control Switch (E45): Defective.

Any ideas? As far as i can remember i didnt go anywhere near the cruise control stalk.

I've just had the exact same thing!

I've heard the earlier stalks are a bit fragile, I know the coding was good as RetroRaz did it. He suggested I get the latest revision stalk and see if that solves it.

Out of curiosity what steering wheel and module did you change to and what is the version of your current cruise stalk? If you have upgraded to the MK6 wheel with the CH steering module then you need the Revision G cruise stalk (1K0 953 513G) otherwise it may not work properly.

I've just fitted the CH controller but with a mk5 wheel, this probably explains my problem then.

I was going to order one from China

Yeah I got my CH steering wheel module, MFSW airbag loom and Rev G cruise stalk from AliExpress and it all works fine on my MK5 GTI when I had my MK6 MFSW retrofitted. Cruise light comes up and works as expected so most likely the CH module doesn't know what to do with the older type stalks (Rev A or F) which is causing the issue!

You don't need to buy a revision G stalk. The only difference is that one wire is routed differently.
On earlier revisions there is a yellow wire going to pin 5 and another going to pin 10.
On newer revisions, both the yellow wires go into pin 10 and pin 5 is left vacant.
All you need to do is remove wire from pin 5, cut off pin connector from the end, strip back a bit of insulation from yellow wire going to pin 10, solder wire that used to go to pin 5 onto exposed wire that goes to pin 10 and tape/heat shrink the new join and your done.

I had the same problem when installing my Mk6 MFSW into my Mk5. I too had the same symptoms and the same code when scanning using VCDS.  I knew I needed the revision G stalk and bought one, but it was actually pinned wrong (it was the same as earlier revisions). It was a eBay one so I chose to re-pin my original stalk as the quality looked slightly better. Plus it means I've now got a new back up stalk.

So the only way to solve this issue is to buy a rev G cruise stalk? How much are they from tps? I dont want to have to mess about with soldering and such  :sad1:

I'm afraid so.
If you don't want to solder, you can just un-clip both wires from pin 5 and 10. Then un-clip the plugs off the ends, twist the bare ends of the wires together and then clamp the a plug back on and insert back into pin 10. Should only take about 15 minutes to do once you've removed the cruise control stalk, which you're going to have to do anyway if you buy a revision G stalk.

Heck, I'll even do that to my new one and sell it cheaply if you want.

Ive fitted a few ch controllers in my time and I've had 3 instances where the cruise stopped working, as soon as rev G installed it was fine. For £20 i think its worth trying

Mine revision G has arrived and I'll let you know if it sorts my issue. It's the last piece of the puzzle. I've checked every other avenue without success. Fingers crossed. Need to buy a new wheel bolt first as my current one has been on and off four times. Wish me luck  :happy2:

bit of an old post but did your version G stalk work? Ive fitted CH control module, routed new wire from back of module up to the blue plug pin 4 under the wipers (2005 model) but im getting stalk defective? I may look at the wiring and try pin 5 join to pin 10 then....

I bought another G stalk as I assumed my 1st one was faulty but maybe its not?

Wheel off again by the look of it!!
