Time to sell private or we buy any car?
« on: January 08, 2017, 10:07:11 am »
I have owned my house mk5 edition 30 for 6 years and it has been by far the best all rounder I have ever had.

A new car means I am selling up but not sure what it is worth.

08 plate edition 30 5 door in dark grey.
110k miles
FSH
510 radio with screen and new Bluetooth module so you can play tunes from your phone.
Superchips bluefin so just shy of 300bhp
Good tyres all round
We buy any car says £4700
Any thoughts on private sale value?
Autotrader suggests £7k might be possible.
I should add it is dsg and has had the dsg oil recently changed.

Depending on condition and what major service jobs have been done, I would have thought about 6k.

Is it a manual or a DSG?

In my limited experience (selling a quite clean, reasonable miles, high spec diesel BMW), We Buy will quote a price (that's not even too good in your case - do they differentiate between an Ed30 and a standard GTi?), then crucify you for even less value when you get to actually "do the deal", particularly if they were to get wind of any "forced sale" type circumstances (new car/house/job etc).
IMO - tread carefully!

Do not use we buy any car.

If you still just want a flat out sale asap then visit a few dealers which sell a variety of cars and they will most certainly give you at least a grand more than we buy any car would give.

Visit a few and see who will offer the most.

WBAC serve a purpose - when you just need a car shifting ASAP and don't mind losing money. Can't say I ever have been or will be in that position but I suppose it works for some people.

Sell it privately. An ed30 shouldn't be hard to move, even if you knocked it down a bit. You shouldn't even entertain the idea of 4-5k.

If its a nice car then don't take less than £6750 private. WBAC are poor.

In my experience time and/or work/family/financial pressures are the key as to how to sell...
quick n easy, RELATIVELY little hassle = WBAC etc!
I once sold wifey's Yaris at auction and got more than WBAC.
After all WBAC have to sell this on, to trade presumably, who will then sell on again to someone who may eventually appear as an owner on here?
That's at least two dealers who need to make a living out of this car.

PS - if you know someone who dosen't mind loosing money, please pass their details to me - by PM of course!  :signLOL:

WBAC valued my ED30 at £4K last year

Their main market is shifting 2-3 year old hum drum cars onto auctions.  They have little interest in old cars like ours and their prices reflect that.

I think the best bet for an ED30 is put it back to standard and hold out for the best price you can get.

Whatever quote WBAC give you, they will try their hardest to knock even more off, be it paintwork imperfections or whatever. Bare that in mind too

WBAC offered me 4.5k for my edition 30. Sold it privately for a lot more.
