Mudguards
« on: January 13, 2017, 01:34:16 pm »
Anyone out there got mudguards on thier mk5?

Im fairly indifferent in terms of the look of them. Dont really think they make the car look any better or worse. My main interest is if they actually offer any functional benefits (or disadvantages). Particulary, do they do anything to reduce the amount of crud which is attracted to the rear of the car?

The VW ones don't look too bad actually.

As for crud build up on the bumper / tailgate, they do help reduce that, but not a huge amount.  Well, they did on my old MK4, so would assume the same on the MK5.

They look sh*te and they don't do enough to warrant putting them on!

That's my opinon, also I'd say only a small minority of the owners here have mudguards on their cars.

A debadged 400hp Ed30 with a towbar and mudguards would be a good stealth wagon

Thanks for the responses!

Sounds like they might make a small difference then - though I would like to hear from someone who does have then fitted to a mk5 before really considering them!

A small reduction in the amount of muck would still be quite a lot of muck and therefore not worth it, as you say @lukemk5gti.

I can do the tow bar, but only 330Hp ish Stg 2, and Eddy badged :sad1:
I really must post some photos - It looks feckin awful!

However, I do have another spare bumper to fit as needed. the idea was to take the bar off between long trips, but tbh i can't be @rsed and it stays on all the time nowadays.

The bar really does work as stealth mode, particularly when I am towing my racing dinghy - the whole rig only weighs <200kg, and the towing speed limit is 60.
Plenty of scope for great fun coming off roundabouts on A-road dual carraigeways, with a rolling start. I have wound up quite a few BMW's by out-dragging them while towing. :signLOL:

I did have a TFSi badge that I planned to fit for extra wind-up value!

...but even I, living in cowsh1t central, baulked at Mudflaps!
Don't think VW do mudflaps compatible with the Ed body kit?

I do have the fronts on my other cars, and that seems to make a difference.

Go on, get a pic up  :happy2:  I've always wanted a tow bar for some rear end protection, but don't think I can stomach the look of the thing!

I think when I eventually stick my TTE420 on, I'll remove the GTI and Edition 30 badges, especially as the latter is no longer available if someone nicks it!  TTE420 sticker will be going in the bin unless someone wants it for a TDI

Not sure about ED30 rear flaps, you could be right actually!
