Still not covering rust
« on: January 15, 2017, 11:00:35 am »
I am annoyed at the fact they cant do anything about it and others getting the rust issue sorted without a probIem any help guys????? Also i do not know how to upload a pic on here so iv copied the email from vw about the rust:

Thank you for your email.  I  am sorry to hear that your visit to Citygate Volkswagen proved disappointing.

The 12 year Body Protection Warranty is applicable to corrosion which works its way from the inside to the outside of the vehicle.  Any corrosion which has been caused as a result of external influences such as accident damage or stone chips is excluded from this warranty.  I apologise you were advised that the vehicle would not be covered due to no maintenance being carried out at the site.  The Warranty Administrator has empowerment to  be able to make a determination if the corrosion can be repaired under the terms of the 12 year Body Protection Warranty.

Due to the nature of your comments I would refer you for a second opinion.  Due to the age of the vehicle, and no determination how the failure has occurred, I would suggest that it is unlikely there will be any support from Volkswagen UK.
I am sorry for the disappointment this may cause.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to contact Volkswagen UK.

To put your pics on here you need to join a photo hosting site such as photobucket then use the insert image button up there ^

It depends on the dealership if you take it to a dealer with many different brands eg vw seat bmw, there's a better chance you'll get it covered by warranty

Rust where?  On the wings?

They definitely get replaced so long as the paint depth test is a pass.  It doesn't have to have a dealer history to qualify.  The paint depth test is going by the theory that humans can't spray as thinly, or as uniformly as robots, so is a good sign of accident damage.

If the car is rusty elsewhere, such as a tailgate, sill, or panel other than the wings, your chances are slim I'm afraid.

That kind of blanket "Get lost, we're not interested" letter sucks.  How do they expect people to buy another VW (which is what they want) based on a response like that?

Try another dealer.   If your wings and bonnet have the factory paint thickness, they can't get out of it.  Tell them you will pull together dozens of cases of successful claims from forums to support your case if they start to suck teeth with you.

Mine were initially declined until I got in touch with VW UK and waved the TSB at them, eventually they replaced them free of charge as a good will gesture. As long as the wings haven't had paint on them  before you have a strong case, basically don't take no as an answer.

The guy who runs this website helped me a lot, has lots of useful info on there: http://www.corroding-volkswagens.com/

I just got both my wings replaced last month 100% cost covered under warranty by Cameron's is n Perth. I also claimed for the 2 rear arches as they've started to show signs of corrosion just at the bumper. VW offered to go 50/50 on these as a good will gesture as it was caused by the bumper flexing, but my share was £430 just for a local repair on both sides.

The bumper rubbing the paint off is still a design flaw which should be covered under the 12 year warranty really, but 50/50 is better than being slapped round the face with a wet Salmon I suppose!

This is the TSB: http://www.stuartdalby.co.uk/vwgolfmk5/rust_wing/2009Nov9CorrosionToGolkMk5FrontWing.pdf

It proves that VW are aware of the wings as being a known fault, they couldn't really argue with me after I mentioned it!
