How to remove oval type mat clips
« on: January 17, 2017, 08:41:50 pm »
The top bit which you rotate 90 degrees to lock the mat in place has snapped off on both the drivers side clips and I want to replace them.

I found a photo of what I thought was the part on eBay and it had a thread on it, but i've tried unscrewing them and they just go round and round.

Then found this photo of a slightly different part and there's no thread. Do they just pull out or do you have to get under the carpet or something stupid?

Thanks in advance

Seats out job tbh unless you can tate off the sill trims and pedal foot rest and side trim then work your hand under the carpet.
Had to replace me tt ones so had the seats out for them.

Taking the seats out really is simple and shouldn't be thought of as a daunting task.

I did it to fit my underseat drawers. 4 bolts hold them in place but you'll need a special head to remove them and you'll need VCDS to remove the airbag code after unplugging the connectors.

Bonus - I found money when I removed the seats. Brief how to in my build thread http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,89715.msg907250.html#msg907250

+1

And I don't have VCDS.

Yeah I found the above photo of the clips as well and assumed they would twist out, but they just go round and round. As mentioned, that must be an aftemarket part. Wish they were like that lol!

Ther still need snapping off as they're clipped in to one another and a little pry should get the top off.
