Hi,

I would check the footwells are dry, leaks are a pig to fix and can get into the electrics leaving you stranded. Check the blower works on all settings not just 4.  check all the various bulbs work including the boot light, Alec heap to fix but a good level to drive down price.

Other checks are uniform gaps between the body panels, smoke from the turbo etc.

+1 on the body panel gaps.  Didn't spot some irregularities on mine when I bought it and I now suspect it's been smacked.  Ho hum.  Although having said that, I've seen dozens of MK5s with iffy panel gaps and they can't all have been crashed. They weren't made as well as the MK4 in the first place.

A paint depth test at a dealer should confirm as the factory applied a very specific paint thickness very uniformly.  If it differs from that, it's likely been crashed and painted.

Have a good hard look underneath for bent sills and cracked / heavily scratched under tray panels.

Obvious visual clues it's a genuine Edition 30:

Engine number sticker on the cambelt cover - must start with "BYDXXXXX"
Red stitching on steering wheel
Long rubber hose going from front of engine to the turbo inlet hose at the back
Half leather seats (usually heated) with electric lumbar adjustment
Edition 30 written on the door sill trims and the metal strip on the dash
There may or may not be an Edition 30 plaque with build number inside the car, they weren't put on at the factory.
Should say Edition 30 and BYD engine number on the V5 form.
18" BBS Pescera wheels
Body coloured front and rear bumpers and side skirts
Front fog lights
Deeper (than the regular GTI) front valance
Edition 30 badge on the tailgate
