Question for manual owners
«
on:
January 27, 2010, 10:57:18 pm »
How do....
I'm after a bit of input from owners of manual cars please. Basically what I'm wanting to know it how everyones gearboxes feel. What i mean by this does anyone have any characteristics with it?
For example my box seems daft as hell, one minute it'll be smooth as silk yet give it 2 miles down the road exactly the same conditions etc it'll be rough as hell/bloody notchy.
Just trying to find out whether it's me thats at fault or the gearbox.
Cheers in advance.

about 22k now, normal driving really if i'm pressing on it doesn't seem bad at all.
Like i say it's a bit weird as it'll only really go skitz in 2nd and occasionally.

I was hoping someone would have said linkage related, i had a thought it might have been like that as there's no crunching/ audible signs just feel through the gear knob that its rough.

In he earlier days I found changing down from fifth to second gear a little problematic - would go into 2nd gear first time. This was early on when I had the car and only occurred on cold journeys. Never happened since.

Mine's a bit notchy from cold and can be a bit reluctant to go back into 1st unless at a complete stop but once warmed up it fine.
On the subject of manual gearboxes - does any one else find it a little whiney in the lower gears, again particularly from cold?

No notchiness, no whining, no varying characteristics. Just 100% fine all the time cold or warm. Nice gearchange and box imo. The only thing i had to get used to was the length of the stick, which compared to my GT3 is rather long!

as most most others , bit notchy from cold.
mine does whine just a little in 3rd and 4th though.
but nothings really changed from new , always been like it.
worth regreasing everything (check the grease youre supposed to use)
maybe even re-align the linkages
also give the selector under the bonnet a once over (check all clips/white runners etc are in place)
I assume you dont have a quick shift?

Nope the linkage is completely standard. It's had a new flywheel and clutch a year ago and it's been gettiing worse since then so hopefully somethings loose. Guessing some silicone grease will do the job with regards to lubrication, I'll have a look over it on Sunday when I'm replacing the dv.
Cheers for the info chaps. It's out a warranty now so hopefully its nothig bad or a extended warranty will be in order

Fine seems to be fine all the time, so far as I've noticed with my mileage at 29k.
