Upgrade Premium Phone kit to Bluetooth - questions
« on: February 13, 2017, 09:33:45 am »
Hi, I have a 2007 Edition 30 which has a RNS510 unit fitted.  I also have an ugly phone crade on the passenger dash like the one shown in the thead below;

I don't have any functional bluetooth in my car but do have the unit from the Premium phone kit which presumably came with the car from factory. (3C0 035 729 E)

I want to have full handsfree bluetooth phone functionality and the ability to stream music from my phone.   Track information would also be nice on both the head unit and the highline clocks.

I'm assuming the newer 7P6 is the way to go.  I know Pashka sells them but he's out of stock at the moment.  I have some questions about the retrofit;

1) The car has an existing loom presented to the 3C0 035 729 E unit beneath the drivers seat.  Can I simply plug in the 7P6 unit as plug and play or would the loom need replaced?

2) I'm assuming the car came with a microphone already installed.  There is nothing connected to the 3CO unit so can I assume the mic is already installed and connects to the loom running to the head unit?

3) I plan to remove the old cradle from the dash but it's not a priority right now.  Would I need to disconnect anything as part of this retrofit?

I know I should be able to find a mic if I remove the plastic trim around the head lining but I was hoping I could get an answer from this board before I start mucking about.

Finally anyone know the best place to source a 7P6 unit?  Ebay seems to be about £150.

Many thanks !!
