Mines significantly dropped to since the winters kicked in, so I think the cold weather doesn't help unfortunately

Mine's not been too bad. it's the stop/start that kills me - 25mpg in town, 34mpg on the motorway.

I'm seeing similar figures to you to. The GTI absolutely hates start stop traffic.

You think yours is poor OP, try 20mpg. 16 mile round trip, usually crawling in 2nd on the A406.

This. My new to me gti only marginally drinks less then my old CLK500, my diesel RRS is definitely better. I figure if it's going to drink anyway may as well rag it everywhere lol.

Just had the cam follower changed while in for cambelt and water pump service. Cam follower was pretty worn after 8 years and I have noted a minor improvement in fuel consumption  - even in the cold weather.
