newby with a ed30

evening lads and lasses , newby here with my 1st vw and its a ed30 .
had a love of fast cars froma early age and had my fair share of them to
escort rs turbo
fiesta rs turbo
mk5 escort rs2000
redtop novas
Volvo 850 t5r/ t5 and 850r
rs cosworth which I still own
and a few others
plan is get the golf to stage 2 and some nice handling mods and a decent brake set up





whats the biggest brakes that fit under the standard wheels , would like 4pots like but not sure

Av got brembo 6 pots on front off mine needed 20mm

i think 20mm spacers would be to much and make the wheels catch the arches which I don't want , will probs end up with the r32 calipers and 340mm disks and yeah bonelorry am on t5d5 and vpcuk as leet5r , hope your well bud

Welcome. Nice looking ed30. Look into the NQSBBK. It uses Porsche 4 pot calipers with the standard 312mm discs, and I'm pretty sure is one of the few 4 pot (or bigger) setups that won't cause clearance issues. Another is the Forge 6 pot kit. Nothing wrong with spacing the wheels to fit something in though. There are loads of options.

I'd also like to know which Cossie you have!

Pescaras are problematic.
Had a used Porsche BBK for my standard eddy, needed spacers, 10mm I think. Still have tnem in the shed somewhere....together with the necessary longer wheel bolts...
That setup didn't work out for me, due to issues with the seller sendng me bits from a mixture of BBK's! I wasted a lot of time and effort....

So, I bit the bullet and brought a new Stoptec BBK (ST 41 I think) off Awesome. Not a bad deal in one of the sale events.
These are basically American licensed Brembo 4 pots, and fitted very easily, no spacers.
Delighted, they are very light, and do all I want/need.
Done 20k on the riad, no problems. I keep a spare set of ST oem pads, they are available for £65.
I have grooved discs, but be aware that another guy on here had the same set uo with drilled, and they cracked. Changed under warranty.

Spacers can be OK if done properly, but 20mm too much imho.

Sorry should have added...

20mm spavers will push the tyres clear of the body such that all the sh1te off the road will get thrown up the side of the car. I ran with my 10 for a bit, and the difference was enough to encourage me to take them off again.

Take it that as an eddy you don't have mud flaps?

I don't go on T5D5 nowadays, No reason to since I sold the T5D5 and I am not a big fan of the Moderation of lack of it on there either. Anyway.....Hope you are enjoying the Golf. Good cars, I have had 3 of them now

thanks for the info lads , managed to get a revo intake cheap so that was fitted last night. tbh I think I will end up buying a kit as its less hassle and will fit with the bbs wheels , I have a ap racing 4 pot kit on the cosworth and they are great but no sh*te covers on the pistons which is fine on the cosworth as it doesn't do that many miles but on the golf which will be 8 to 10k is a no no.
also been looking at a scorpion downpipe and decat but not sure if they are much cop

Seriously - welcome to VW. Sounds as though you've had some great cars in the past. Personally I've just progressed through various VW's to my ED30.
ARB's and decent dampers / springs make a difference on these. In terms of brakes - they are poor as standard. I had a full set of R32/S3's fitted all round - they are weighty, but transform the car. I've fitted aluminium wishbones to offset the weight, and have the ali hubs to go on at some point.

thanks lads , ordered the salk kit and will be after a set of r brakes with the 60mm piston and 340 mm discs as 4pots are out of reach atm , but as a whole am enjoying the car and its by far the best daily av had , just not as quick as the cosworth yet lol

Poor in what sense?  Initial bite or fade?  Can't say I've had an issue with either on the road.

Gotta say in response to the standard brakes ive an eddie myself and i dont think there great at all will be upgrading mine at some point but got a list of things to do before hand
