rain sensor gel pack

Could some kind sole provide me with a picture of how the rain sensor should look on the mk5 gti windscreen. I'm fairly sure that autoglass have in my absence not replaced the gel pack with a genuine one. Thanks in advance.

Yes, they are terrible for that.   Twice I've had a new screen done and despite asking them to do the rain sensor properly, they didn't, and left me with tonnes of air pockets, so the wipers don't work properly.  Useless cretins.

Interested in seeing how it's supposed to look too!  Is this something we can sort ourselves?

You could remove the rear view mirror and components but then you're also taking the risk of damaging it.

If your windscreen repair company made a balls of it, I would put the onus back on them.

When I had mine changed, I had the installer spray water on the window and test everything before I would sign his docket. No signature = No pay

A little background to this they replaced the windscreen last year which is when my wiper probs started.

They do detect rain intermitantly. I.e light rain usualy a delay on swipe wen completely saturated when most normal people would have turned wipers on. Or not activating wen i go past a lorry at 70 in the rain so im completely blind until i do it manually.

The cretins returned today. I have been told there is nothing wrong hence no reason to replace either sensor or gel pack.a

Does anyone know what they are supposed to replace. I mean because they fit a new screen do they have to replace sensor. Im also sick of there sh*t screens why do they never replace with a vw one.

Exactly the same situation with me mate.  I wish I'd done what Luke suggested before they drove off!

I just noticed that when I got back to the car, the rain sensor area was just full of air bubbles, so obviously wasn't replaced. They'd simply shoved the old one back on again, and obviously once you've broken the seal on a sticky part, it's not going to back on again the same.  Useless dimwits.  No one takes pride in their work anymore.

Yes, aftermarket screens are utter sh*te.  At least 1-2mm thinner than OEM I would guess.  How else can they crack so easily after replacement, and from a stone at 40mph?  So yeah, 1 week after screen 1 was fitted, screen 2 needs replacing now too.  It's all a scam to keep AutoGlass et al in business....but VW want over £500 for a screen 

I looked into binning off the auto wiping and replacing it with an old school manual variable wipe, but apparently the only way to do it is to unplug the rain sensor in the mirror, then the motor control module defaults to manual adjustment.

Well im not entirely sure what they have done. I unfortunately wasnt there wen they came back. Tonight the rain came and tonight my wipers do not work properly. They wipe but only on a continually intermittent setting. Mmmnnnn i suspect trickery. They didnt detect the rain i had to move the stalk to auto. Right autoglass management i hope your ready for me.

Doesnt look like the dimming mirror is workin either. Is there anything they could do that would do this.

Maybe they forgot to connect sensor back in ?:D

I ve rung and complained now on the third visit. Does anyone know if the sensor should be clear or hazy white. Need my facts straight before they arrive.
