HEL braided lines for standard OE set up?
« on: January 29, 2017, 12:42:43 pm »
Hi all

Just wondered is it going to make a difference to change the lines to HEL braided lines on a standard OE set up? I've just recently put new brembo discs and pads all round and just wondered if this would make any more of a difference?

Thanks

It improves the pedal feel is the best way to describe it - a bit more direct connection to the brake if you get what I mean. It doesn't really make the stoppers work better, just makes them feel better, though as a consequence of changing your lines you will also be renewing the fluid which is always worth it!

I fitted them to my old standard MK4 R32 and didn't notice anything!

The OEM lines are Kevlar reinforced apparently, so hardly surprising the difference is minimal.

I found that it improved the pedal feel noticeably. It brought more of the braking performance to the top of the pedal travel. Definitely recommended  :happy2:

That doesn't make sense. I don't think braided lines make that much difference tbh.

R8 V10 has rubber hoses, I'm sure the brakes work ok  :signLOL:

If there is a difference, I've never noticed it personally.   I think the brake pedal, or the caliper carriers would flex slightly before the benefits of 4 billionty millionty psi hoses would be felt.

Nearly every OEM application uses rubber outers with some kind of steel or kevlar inner and they are super robust.  People just see the rubber bit of the pipe and assume it flexes like mad.  Unless the original 10 year old hose is starting to go, or there's some other issue with the brakes, or tyres, or bushes, hoses should make little to zero difference.
