Worrying noise- advice appreciated!
« on: February 03, 2017, 03:18:26 pm »
Just gone to nip to the shop- about 20 yards from home a hear a loud snap like noise from the front- I'd guess like the sound of a cable snapping. Another 20 yards or so I get a similar second noise although not as loud. Car hadn't moved for a week or so if that matters. Any clues what I might be up against gents?
Thank you

Ok just gone to have a look while not really knowing what I'm looking for! Sounds like a 'twang' noise when I get near to full lock in either direction- not sure if posting this clip will work...

It'll be spring related.   Seized top mount bearings causing the front springs to twist and do the twangdango, or a coil(s) has snapped off.

Thanks Pudding- I'm guessing it's a case of 'do not drive' until looked at then?

Just listened to the sound clip, defo a spring related issue mate.  You can still drive it, but get it up in the air and look for either a snapped off coil or seized top mount bearings   :happy2:

As above a snapped spring...
Be careful  the spring hasn't come of its seat and is close to the tyre

Yep definitely a spring, join the club, last two days I've heard a rattling like I've dropped a spanner in the engine bay, went to my mechanic to quote for my res delete and mentioned it to him andwhile were under the car, he says your springs snapped lol, good job I'm having the vwr springs fitted next week  :signLOL:
