MK5 Golf GTI - value
« on: February 08, 2017, 01:17:35 pm »
Hello all!

I'm looking at a mk5 GTI, can anyone advise me on how the price seems for the following:

54 reg, 53,000 miles, Full service history, 2 previous owners, red, full leather, heated seats? It's up for £5,990
They will also replace timing belt and water pump included in the sale

Any ideas on how well this is priced please!?
Thank you

Sounds reasonable to me for the low mileage.

It's an early car but mileage and half decent spec makes it a a tempting buy! Replacing the belt and pump has gotta be a few hundred notes you'll save? To gauge a cars value i search for similar age cars and mileages on autotrader,eBay and pistonheads etc which will tell you what similar cars are fetching. Good luck

Tried to sell my minter stock MK5 last month, 65k FSH no mods, got offered £4K! I figured it was worth at least £5K.

I have just bought a 06 plate, Full history, very clean on 100k for £4500 so seems a fair price for the mileage  :happy2:

Hold on a minute.

How can anyone on here say this is well priced without actually viewing/driving the car?!

Josh, like I said in your other thread - don't get fixated on one car. Don't take this the wrong way, but it sounds like you don't have too much experience in buying cars. Would that be a fair guess? And it sounds like you're keen for someone to back up your hopes that this car in particular is a good one, and not a lemon like you bought before. Sound about right?

Here's the problem. People on a forum can only tell you if a car is theoretically priced in the right ballpark. What we can't do is tell you whether the car is a total dog or not.

Is there anyone you know who's into cars you could bring along to view a few? It could be the difference between finally getting a decent one or getting another rotter.

Take your time mate, seriously.

I've bought a few cars, I'm meaning if the car drives as it should, and are no issues with it, after having a previous one go wrong I'll be as thorough as I can
Thanks

I believe he's asking for people's opinions? The purpose of a forum maybe.......

personally i'd go for a newer car with a few miles on, i paid £5750 for an 07 with 99k on. Condition and history means more than mileage.
