Unlock code RNS MFD-2
« on: February 14, 2017, 03:58:40 pm »
Looking for some help please,

Went for the midline to highline upgrade at the weekend and all went well except for the fact that my stereo is now locked. It appears that it is a retrofit as the code in the book will not work. Can anyone help me with this please? I've called the dealers and am still waiting on a return call.

The only details I have from the radio itself are shown in the pictures below.

Thanks in advance for any help.  :happy2:

Cheers,

Mick.

Don't suppose you tried the "4003" that's on your first pic? Not likely to be that easy.

If the dealer won't help you out I've seen there's guys on eBay offering codes, might be worth a shot..

Thanks for the reply mate. yes, first thing I tried. Not as easy as that I'm afraid! I also tried the code for dash which I retrieved while downloading the IMMO data from the midline clocks. I'm going to run that scan again and see if the code from the highline cluster might do it. I've pulled the battery before and it's never lost the code, so i'm assuming that it's because it sees the clocks as a different car hence the code request. Was also thinking of putting the old clocks back in and see if it auto unlocks and if so, maybe I can pull the code from the unit by using VAG Commander as I did see a field in there somewhere which looks like it may have that functionality.

Hi Alex,

The tight, stubborn bugger in me wants to explore all other avenues before coughing up a fee but if I have no joy (or choice  :signLOL: ), I'll definitely be in touch.  :happy2:

Waiting to speak to my mate who works in a VW dealers to see if there's a specific method to follow before requesting a refund.  :happy2:

I'm sure there won't be an issue with a refund from a fellow member.

Money refunded this morning by Alex when VW were able to extract a different code form the unit itself.  :happy2:

In his defense, the code VW acquired from their own database was the same one he provided originally so in essence his service works but is at the mercy of correct/incorrect data on the VW database.

VW confirmed that the database is 60/40 at best but this comment was "off the cuff" so to speak so probably should not be taken at face value.

I would still recommend Alex as his service was quick and relatively cheap if unlike me, you don't have the option of a mate in VW to scan the unit for free.
