Poor guy on Facebook, anyone on here?

I've been in the same boat when I went to service my car and found my follower in the same state.

and then?

New fuel pump, follower, cam and whilst there got the chain, tensioners, belt and water pump done.
But now have a p0011 code which the garage can't diagnose...I've narrowed it down to the vvt unit

AJP you're right as I wouldn't have known about these failures if I didn't read up about them failing or firstly when joining this group and the guys who were kind enough to mention these parts may need replacing and checking 
Not everyone is clued up on cars hence we have these issues and expensive learning curves for some of us sadly but that's how it is an experience.

Let's be fair - the follower isn't in any way deemed a servicable item by VW. Which is questionable. Some cars seem to barely score the surface after miles and miles, but others get this mess. Unless you're on a forum like this or you're into your cars you wouldn't think to check/replace it.

I did    I always thoroughly research a car before I buy it.  I deemed the risks worth it against the cost of the parts and labour involved.  The day after I picked up my Eddy, I went straight to the dealer and ordered a tappet, all filters, front and rear PCV and ordered a DV+ online, and they were all fitted the day after!

And armed with the knowledge of the common faults, I knew what to look for on the inspection / test drive too!

But yep, most of the google searching I did lead me to this forum, so it's been a brilliant resource!

This forum has provide me with more knowledge about my Eddy and TFSI engines than I care to admit to colleagues at work . They already think I am slightly left field and a bit anal about my car but...

Its already lead me to :-

• Change and check my follower
• Change my oil from 5W30 to 5W40
• Book in to have the Thermostat and Cam chain done
• Refurb and replace my rear calipers
• Buy VCDS
• Replace and refit a genuine water pump
• Replace the cabin filter

Oh and be proud I have a lovely car and lots of fun with more to come ... Part of the enjoyment of these type of cars is the community and amazing things people do and share.

What made you change the oil viscosity? I have always used 5W30.

Reading the various views on running a lean burn engine and being able to drive mostly on dual carriage way allows me to get more benefit from a slightly thicker oil under temperature. I also reckon it would burn less than the litre per 5000 miles which is something I worried about until I found out these TFSI's are actually diesels in disguise  And also a very noisy cam chain which has quietened down a little since changing. 5W30 is a little too thin... and me coming from a traditional 10W40 camp was a leap of faith. I know its the VW specific oil SAE standard after years of testing but I feel better about just tweaking it.

Other than that no other reason.

5W40 (502.00) and 5W30 (507.00) are both specified by VW for use in the TFSI.

502 for fixed 10K servicing and 507 for variable 20K servicing.   507 has a lot more anti-sludging, anti-thickening and anti-wear additives than 502, simply because it's in the engine for twice as long as 502.   Well, that's the theory at least but we all know TFSIs don't get 20K from a sump of oil!  1litre per 4000 miles consumption is considered good for a TFSI!

So in other words, there is no need for enthusiasts to use 507 because we change it out frequently, therefore a much cheaper 502 is plenty good enough.  I use Mobil 1 0W40 at the moment, which seems to have a great performance / cost ratio and the engine seems to like it too!

How do you think this is possible? Is it worth trying? I thought about what I can do about it, apart from unique content and beautiful pictures. I thought to buy real instagram likes. Have any of you tried this? It would be interesting what the result was after you bought likes if your profile improved.
