American-based (reflected in the prices) but fantastic for some well-detailed reviews of many cameras, as well as a great search system.

have a look at a Panasonic dmc lx3 pref in black, is not a slr cam so still a nice size but the quality of pics you get are rather good,

I use the older version of that, the 400D and I absolutely love it. The 450D comes with the DIGIC-3 image processing engine. Either this or the equivalent Nikon would be my choice but me <3 Canon (plus my dad's got loads of lenses which I can nick)
