canbus decoder ?

Hi guys does anyone know if these canbus decoders really work.
I want a new stereo but ive been put off by all the storys of battery drain if u have a car with the older canbus. I have a 56 plate golf gti, and no access to vagcom.
These stereos claim to have a built in canbus decoder.

I'd also like to know if this would work as I can't for the life of me find my gateway on my car

Where have you looked so far?
Above the clutch pedal, above the accelerator, seems well hidden! Spent an hr looking for it on Sunday
