Hi I have decided to go out and buy a golf mk5 gti tsfi I used to own a mk4 1.8t which was a awesome car however I decided to buy a civic type r ep3 after the mk4

As much as I do like the type r  for its own reasons and strengths it really isn't for me to all or nothing which I don't like plus I got owned by a mk4  the other day on a private road

I miss the refinement of a vw and a turbo !

Now the plan of action is to find and buy a decent mk5 gti I just need to find out more about them tuning capabilities reliabilith etc

Looking in the region of spending 5-6.5 k

Really at this price point i would look for history over spec u can always mod what u want when u want but a really good history is deffo worth it. Lots can be done to the engine and there is plenty of ideas from the members rides so have really good builds to look at. Deffo check the front arches for rust as thats a big problem

Do you think I should up my budget to find a clean example with good history ? My mk4 1.8t had 77 k miles on it however I know if looked after properly the1.8t engine can do the miles is this the same with the tsfi engine?

Thank you for the heads up about the rusty wings I'm going to have a read through the forum to gain some more general knowledge on mk5 gtis before I rush in to purchase one

It'll be a second car so more of a weekend car \project as I use a van as my daily to work etc

Any more info would be appreciated

Thanks
Adam

Good luck with finding a nice one, there's a good few still out there. And then it's all smiles when you drive it.
