Polarized windscreen
« on: March 01, 2017, 09:14:39 am »
Morning all. I've got a cracked windscreen and I know some of the Audis came with a polarized windscreen. Does anyone know if this is a VW option?

Hi Mate

(not hi-jacking you thread, just sharing the pain

I work up to this today, hairline crack, it seems to be getting bigger. Its most likely from the recent weather. Insurance have said to use their supplier (auto-glass).

I'm bloody annoyed, but hey ho.

Make sure the auto wipers work before they leave.  They are well known for busting the gel pack and leaving it like that.

Autoglass have replaced my glass twice and on both occasions replaced the gel packs. Even got a pair of free rubber screen trims and now a free screen for the four times I've been messed about so result

Make sure they get you the correct colour screen as mine is tinted blue  :happy2:

No polarised screens

Just out of interest - (if you are getting a new windscreen on your insurance) - do auto-glass and the likes replace with OEM windscreen with the VW markings or do they always supply and aftermarket product?

I'm insured with LV - windscreen cover requires you to use Autolgass  - so I have had to use Autoglass in the past.  They fit aftermarket not OEM.

You can request oem window screen.
When you ring them up just tell them that's what you want wait is usually abit longer. But worth the wait

It's not worth waiting as they lied to me about the glass being genuine on three occasions and the first being after it was fitted as I wasn't with the car at the time. After complaining they said it was sent by the dealer but it doesn't have the stamp which is a load of cack as the dealer screen will always have a stamp no matter what. Be careful as they try to lie about insurance excess costing more when it doesn't as I could of have the glass if I persisted but after waiting for the forth time so got p***** off and just accepted what they had to offer as the barstuards were wasting my time each time the Technician came with the wrong glass. Got a free screan and two side screan trims out of it in the end  :popcornsoda:

I had no problems with them waited about two weeks engineer turned up with genuine windscreen stamped.
When I spoke to the engineer fitting it he said you did the right thing requesting the genuine windscreen copy's are crap and don't last.
Had no problems over my last three cars be there when they fit it.

@stig_gti.  Interesting.  Never had it done on the GTI, but Autoglass refused to fit original when replacing my Audi A8 windscreen - they would only fit aftermarket.

Weird that when I spoke to them about a year ago they said they will have to request it from my insurance.
Personally if my insurance would declined or autoglass declined I would of argued that fact I pay fully comprehensive insurance and I want like for like.
It's a genuine one in there and that's what I want it replaced with.
Never had to do it because they have always been fine with it no issues what so ever.
Are auto glass franchises maybe some are better then others.

Yes, you may be right about individual Autoglass  outlets - trouble ultimately is with insurance cover.  LV will not cover, say, fitting of original windscreen by dealer.  The policy specifies using Autoglass, so if you want dealer to fit, it falls outside of the policy cover.  I had a very thorough and detailed argument over the A8 windscreen on exactly this issue, both with LV and Autoglass, but with no success.
