Insurance help
« on: March 01, 2017, 02:44:46 pm »
Today a truck undertook me and whilst doing so hit my wing mirror and took the casing and glass off.. the truck was from turkey and driver didn't speak any English. Got his insurance details etc.. looks like I'll just need a new casing painted and glass. I haven't contacted my insurance company yet, will they try to raise my insurance or can this affect my NCD?

If the other driver's insurance admit fault 100%, they will pay.

Otherwise just pay for it yourself as you would lose some/all NCD (unless protected, but often this is only protected for 2 claims), and your premium could go up.

My NCD isn't protected and my excess is £700 :surprised:

Doubt other party will admit fault either. If I start a claim does that mean I need to pay the £700 excess before they would even contact the other insurance company?

I've replaced the cap before but this time looks like the electric folding mech is damaged and it needs a mirror glass too. Any links to a good aftermarket replacement?

This is the one I got for my Mk 6 golf. Not sure if it is the same as the mk5. I had to swop 2 wires round as I think these are designed for left hand drive cars.

Tell your insurance company you want to pursue it as a non-fault claim on your part, i.e. you do not want to start a claim that will mean you have to pay the excess/lose some or all NCD and possibly effect you premium. There may be a limited time for the other insurer to come back i.e. 2 weeks before they would not pursue it any more. Then if you wanted to get the damage fixed by the insurance, it would be from part your insurance/part the other's insurance or all yours (depending on the % fault each side i.e. 80% their fault and 20% your fault)
