Diverter Valve - VW Dealer Not Helpful!
« on: March 01, 2017, 04:08:36 pm »
Sorry for another Diverter Valve Post but after speaking to two VW Dealers and some browsing on the forum I've been left a bit confused...

I rang two VW dealers to find out which one to fit to my car because I understand there are two possible Diverter Valves that could be ordered (Revision D or G).  So I gave all my car details and the following prices were quoted:

06 F 145 710 G - £45.32

07 H 145 710 D - £68.60

However, the first dealer I spoke to didn't know what a Diverter Valve was and the second said he couldn't tell me which one was right for my car without seeing which Turbo was in it or the current DV part number in my car but SUSPECTED it was the second and more expensive one (Revision D)

SO... is anyone able to shed some light on how I could confirm which is definitely right for mine?  I've got a 2005 55 plate MK5 GTI.

Thanks to anyone thats given this a read,

Matt.

Get the G. It'll hold boost better than a D, but might not last as long. Treat the DV as a servicable item.

There's no real rhyme or reason behind fitting specific revisions to specific turbos. I think k04 cars mostly had revision D, but a D works with a k03 too, just as a G works with either.

The consensus on here and of the majority of tuners is that G is the best bet. But also read up on the GFB DV+.

Most dealers aren't enthusiasts, so I would cut them some slack if they don't know a part by the same name we know it as.   Their parts system extremely vague + German translation = some stupid name given to a logical part.

For example - K03/K04 turbo outlet gasket.  Fairly simple and a common part you'd think, but on my invoice it showed as "Pressure seal".

Luckily I've known my dealer for 25 years, so my standard drill is "MF07 UGN, engine main page, cooling system sub page please mate....."  and I just point at what I need.  Next day delivery and automatic discount for me too    Oh and something else I discovered recently, don't go by internet part numbers.  They expire and change frequently.

The DV is known by a totally different name by the dealer, that's why. Same as the cam follower is known by a different name too

Go for the rev G

If funds permit, get a DV+ as mentioned above and be done with it. No replacing or torn diaphragms. The dv+ is a fit and forget part and glad I did that after having a rev D which was leaking boost.

Sounds like I was perhaps a little arrogant assuming they would know what I meant, to be fair it it is one of many cars that VW has made and 1 out of MANY many parts, you make a good point

Had a little look and don't think the funds will stretch that far at the moment but it certainly seems a great part, but thanks for the recommendation  :happy2:

I strongly recommend just putting the few pound in now and getting a DV +

I purchased a Rev G brand new which split. Then I got a rev D brand new and it didn't hold as much boost (could have been in my head). Then I purchased a GFB DV+ for the same price I spent on the previous two.

Do it right from the start and don't look back. GFB is roughly £90 pound these days I'd say and you use your existing solenoid for whatever is in your car.

OP has the part number - surely names are irrelevant?

I was going for the same DV+ that you bought off the forum. Hesitated and then missed out. I wasn't laughing then!
