£233 later!
« on: January 29, 2010, 09:12:32 pm »
Took the car in for a service today and it ended up costing £233.33!!! Is this the normal price?

Another thing that really annoyed me was I specifically said to the service man do not wash the car. I mean I made it clear and watched him right it on the job sheet! I said last time I said this they washed it so can you make sure it is not. He said yeah sure, low and behold on my return the car is cleaned and probably full of swirl marks!  :fighting:

The real reason for this thread is that I was offered a loyalty scheme which included free MOTS (next month due), 4 services, discount on parts and other stuff for £25 a month. Is anyone on this scheme? Is it worth it?
I am just thinking pay it when it comes is probably a better idea?

Ollie :happy2:

which service ?,  my first service was £100, and the second was £115, you have to shop around for best quotes with VW

This was the 60000 miles one (my car has done 38000 ) They added two extra things. The standard service was £169.

They are not set prices? I wish I knew this yesterday morning!  :fighting2:

That is what I said hoover but dont wash the outside! You would think it was less work so they would be happy not to do it!  :stupid:

I think this was the 3rd. I cant remember the two extra things. I will find the slip!  :happy2:

Trouble is the rastafarian (true of my dealer anyway) who takes the car away and drives it thought the car wash won't read the job sheet and will just assume its getting washed just like every other car that day and always.  In fact he probably gets grief from his boss if it isn't done.

Best way it to stick a big note over the steering wheel saying 'DO NOT WASH' ...

I phoned and asked yesterday morning and they said £200 (she did not mention exc VAT)

I just accepted the cost and took it in this morning. I didn't know that they would have different costs for the same job at different VW dealers!!!

Well I guess we all learn from these types of things, and you know for next time. For future you may want to check this link http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/offers/price-promise?csearch=price promise

Its always good to shop around and see if they will match

Ive just signed up to service plan with my local dealer which includes MOT's. My service package is approx £350 for the 3 years, the last service and MOT I had was done on this scheme and would have cost me about £160 alone so its good value in my opinion. My next service will be a 40k one which I believe is a biggie!

Second service done on mine last weekend £115 all in. Shop about VW initially quoted £210 - all they do is change the bloody oil and the filter.

That'll be the free express visual inspection.  Which is always free at any dealer.  Isn't marketing clever...
