Boot Button on Keyfob
« on: March 08, 2017, 10:02:14 am »
This doesn't seem to do anything on my car. Is this normal? or is something not working. On my wife's Beetle the button pops the boot as if you've used the handle so you can just grab the boot and open.

In standard form all it does is unlock the boot. You may have to double press it. If nothing then you may have some broken wires in the boot loom but if it unlocks with the rest of the car, they should be ok.

You can do a boot pop mod. I think there is a how to on here but if not, Google mk5 boot pop and you can see how its done.

As above, you hold it and it will allow you to then open the boot whilst the car is still locked. It will automatically re-lock once the boot is closed so dont drop the keys in the boot  :signLOL:

VCDS coding can change it to actually open the boot as mentioned, and some additional hardware (bumpstops and stronger struts) can make it fully open unaided, although you end up lifting your own bodyweight trying to close the hatch due to the stronger struts  :signLOL:

Thanks! That's good, I'll test it at lunch time. Sounds like its normal then.

Right tested this. It definitely does nothing. The red light comes on on the keyfob so the button press it working.

tired with the car locked, unlocked, double pressing and press and hold. Must be something in the coding in my car, or maybe something set in the highline computer thingy

Hold it for a couple of seconds, you should then be able to open the boot via the handle afterwards.

If not, then yeah you need someone to look at it for you

Had the same thing on my ED30 and I had to enable it wit VCDS.  Maybe a previous owner turned it off, who knows.

It's in the Central Electronics module iirc, and you open up the Long Coding helper and page through the features until you find it.  Can't remember what it was called, but you just put a tick in it and click "Do it!".

Thanks guys. I tried press and hold for a few seconds and again did nothing.

Maybe someone got it turned off in the past after getting their keys locked in. Who knows. Thanks for the VCDS code, I'll get it checked out next time I plug in.

you wont hear any sounds so it wont look like anythings happened. it'll just allow you to pull the handle and open the boot

It's called "soft touch opening" in VCDS, enable it and it will crack open the boot for you but unless you install the uprated rams etc. it wont open more than an inch or so.

As a matter of fact, even in the cold WITH the rams, it wont open any more than that so save yourself the money and just enable the function.  :happy2:

That's the one! Thanks for the reminder!

Yes, I had the Skoda gas struts and Scirocco poppers and it was amusing for the first few goes, but it soon became annoying, and my missus hated it as she struggled to close the tailgate   The loud thunk as the latch releases can only spell accelerated wear on that too.

Agreed. I also thought it may be dangerous when opening in underground carparks.................it would be the one time it would actually work as intended and smash your bootlid off cable rails or something equally horrible!  :signLOL:
