Depends on your canbus revision I had to upgrade my canbus and take the old values of the old canbus and put into the new canbus using my vcds so first thing to check is your canbus revision on vagcom, from what I know most 07 cars need the updated canbus to avoid battery drain mate

I've just had an RCD510 fitted. 07 car. Canbus is revision K - this can be checked with VCDS. No drain issues here; cars with K are usually fine, as far as I understand it.

You do need VCDS to code the gateway, but no coding is needed for installing the RCD510. But you will have the battery drain issue. I was unaware of the battery drain issue when first installing my updated radio and just kept pulling the fuse out till I got my updated gateway about a week later.
