edition 30 revs

driving my edition 30 home and I notice it was sitting in 2nd gear rather then 1st at adle then after a min or so I noticed the revs were going up by them self's  and it was idling high  after I got home and got out of the car I noticed a funny smell  just wondered if anyone had a idea of what it was before I take it to the garage Friday cheers

+1 for the PCV or one of the pipes connecting to the intake...sounds like an air leak.

changed the pcv value  still doing it and the cars showing no fault and the garage are saying they don't know lol

Check for cracks or splits on the pcv pipes, specifically the one going from pcv to under the inlet manifold

Idling high and funny smell.  It might help if you were a bit more specific.   What was the idle speed and was it stable at that speed, or rising and falling repeatedly?  What was the smell?  Petrol, oil, burned oil?  Any smoke etc?

Need a copy of VCDS and learn how to read and monitor the sensors.  Will save you a lot of repeated garage visits and it's a must on these cars.

Dont DSG boxes start to rev up and down when stationary when they're starting to get a bit upset? If you have DSG is it due a service (40k miles/3-4yrs off the top of my head)?
