New ED30 Owner
« on: March 18, 2017, 06:20:39 pm »
Hi All,

I'm pretty new here. Just picked up my first VW today - a red Golf GTi Edition 30. Five door, DSG, anthracite Pescaros.

Not really driven it much, but so far it's great. Few things to sort out on it, but it's generally in good condition.

I've come from Mistubishi Evo ownership (remapped Evo X FQ-330 SST) so it's quite a different beast!

Mike.

Welcome to the forum mate.

You should enjoy cheaper running costs than the Evo, but a bit less grip unfortunately.

An ed30 with all the bolt-on upgrades and a good map is probably in the performance ballpark you're used to.... but only from a roll, say 60 on.

As an all round car though, it's leagues above an Evo

Cheers  :happy2:

It was a known change going to FWD from 4WD. As you say the Golf is arguably a better all round car. Certainly as a daily driver it's a much more forgiving place to be in!

Lots of things to fix on this Golf as is normal when buying a non-enthusiast owned car. Today's find is a chav tastic dump valve!

I have the APR remap and a WALK kit on my list of things to change, but first up is the cambelt and water pump as that's due soon. Also the four 'Nexen' tyres will be swapped out asap! But my biggest issue straight away is that it's been smoked in so needs a deep interior clean.

Welcome along buddy!

I've never seen a dump valve in a GTI so I'm sure that's a pile of sh*te!!

The edition 30 is amazing and hopefully hasn't been thrashed!

Thanks, yeah I wasn't expecting one but there's a definite chav-tastic flutter when you generate some boost and lift off.

It's been reasonably well looked after. Lots of motorway miles and feels nice and solid. The exterior is pretty immaculate, just the inside needs a spruce up.

To be fair, anything after the Evo is going to feel refined!

Throw up a few photos when you get a chance.

Some eagle eyes forum users might notice anything out of the ordinary!

You can also put your plans up and other users might have advice or better yet, parts to help you along the way...
