Coilover Knock
« on: May 04, 2017, 09:51:03 am »
I've recently fitted some coilovers and there is a knocking noise when I turn the wheel at very low speeds or when stationary.

I've done some research and some people are saying it could be the suspension top mount bearings are gone, and some are saying the subframe bolts need tightening/replacing. Does anyone know of anything else I should check while I'm looking at the other bits?

Im gonna have a look at the weekend as it's going in for an MOT on Monday  :scared: if I can't stop the noise do you think this will be a failure?

Thanks.

Sounds like the infamous subframe movement.   Lowering and stiffening the suspension tends to highlight it more.

Many options for this.  ECS kit from awesome, Tyrol sport kit, VW spacer shims with teeth.  Everyone who's bought the tyrol kit has had the problem solved for good.

No it won't be an MOT failure.

Thanks are these the kits you are referring to?

Think i'll give the ecs kit a try for £20 if that doesnt sort it the Tyrol kit might be the next step 4

Yep, they're the ones.  ECS also do a full collar kit like the Tyrol, as do 034 Motorsport.  Both on Awesome's site.

People have mixed results with the £16 option.

The problem is the bolts stretch over time, so tends to be a temporary fix but that is where the Tyrol kit comes in.  It comes with ARP bolts that don't stretch.  Exceptional quality too, hence the price.  Do it once, do it right is my advice......but I appreciate it's a lot of money for a few bolts and some brass collars.
