Sticking rear calipers
« on: March 29, 2017, 09:16:40 pm »
My rear caliper pistons are sticking with very little movement.
I done a bit of research here on bleeding the brake lines after I free out the pistons.
But what I'm unsure, is it possible to bleed the brake lines with out scan tool to activate the abs pump. Is that only for fully flushing the brake lines or is it also necessary to bleed the brakes properly?
Also will obdeleven pro have this option to activate the abs pump?

It's recommended but not essential to cycle he abs pump.

If you are due a fluid change I'd be looking to cycle the pump to ensure the old stuff is out of the pump.

Since you'll most likely be replacing your caliper then you'll be changing your brake fluid.

While you're at it, yes you should do the abs pump cycling.

Highly doubt obd will do that and you'll need vcds.

Alternatively you could have a garage do it but you'll be doing well to find one who know about this system flushing.

Most suck it out and top it up.

Thanks lads.
I was just going to rebuild my calipers instead of replacing them.
Any links or recommendations  to where I can buy a quality scan tool to run stuff like abs pump cycle.

Doubt anything aftermarket is capable of doing that.

You'll need VCDS.

To buy circa £300 or alternatively there's a list on the forum with details for all users with VCDS so find someone nearby.

About time VCDS got with the times and did a wireless dongle and an app, but it is still the best out there currently.

Regarding the calipers, I wouldn't bother trying to refurb them personally.  Tried it in the past on an R32 and had limited success.  They seized up again 6 months later.
