Service Items
« on: April 04, 2017, 08:28:39 am »
Going to service the two golfs on the next good weekend. Only minor service so oil and filter on both.

Millers nano drive 5W40 on both but where can is the best place to buy this and have it delivered to Ireland? @fab5freddy I recall you doing this?

Air filters standard enough from GFS?

So long as the filter is made by MANN, you'll be fine, else use a dealer filter.

As well as the engine, I also do the following on my services:

Grease all hinges.
Clean up and re grease the bonnet latch.
Check / replace wiper blades.
PTFE lube the door and tailgate seals (stops creaking noises over bumps).
Treat the leather.
Check the radiator fans work (put the AC on).
Visual check for damper leaks and snapped springs.
Visual check for brake pad remaining life.
Silicon grease the sunroof rails.
Check all bulbs.

And once a year I drop the arch liners out to clear away leaves and crud and check the scuttle and sunroof drains aren't blocked.

You're a gent @Pudding

I've done everything on your list already about a million times in five years of ownership.

My engine is AXX so I'm a filter insert and not a screw on filter correct?

Will the following air and oil filters do? Both MANN

I'll also go castrol magnatec 5W-40 since it's half the price of Millers

Good man!

Yeah all TFSI engines use an insert now and MANN are fine for both.  Is there not a dealer near you?  I only use dealers for parts because I'm picky

I don't like Magnatec personally.  'Magnetic' oil sticking to conrods and blocks serve no purpose really!  Has this micks garage place not go Mobil 1 0W40?  I'd use that if they've got it, else you'll have to import some of the good stuff from Opie Oils

Magnatec was €40 and Castrol Edge is €80 including top ups.

Thoughts on Castrol Edge so?

Do I need to replace my sump plug and washer or can I reuse them?

Opie oils is cheapest for Millers, I found postage was cheaper through eBay, than there website, direct to Ireland.

If you have parcel motel or Address pal then better again as it's normally free postage to UK address's, then only €3.95 or €3.50 respectively

Is this the exact stuff?
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-115238-millers-oils-nanodrive-cfs-5w-40-nt-full-synthetic-engine-oil-2017.aspx
OPIE Oils Millers Oils NANODRIVE CFS 5w-40 NT+ Full Synthetic Engine Oil (2017) - 5 Litres

I can get two x 5L drums of Millers with 10% discount and shipping all in for €140

or

I can get two 5L drums of Castrol Edge including discount and shipping for €100

I'd rather get the Castrol Edge considering I'll be getting filters from the same company.

What do you think?

Yead Edge is pretty good.   Magnatec is only a partial synthetic and Edge is full synthetic.  TFSI engines are very hard on oil, so you need a full synth.

Yep that is the correct Millers stuff.
