GTI MK5 K04 Ignition issues (retard)
« on: April 05, 2017, 04:33:34 pm »
Hi every one,
I’ve got a problem with my car. Exactly with ignition timing and retard- this is the reason why we can’t raise the power of the engine.

Specification:

Golf V GTI 2006r. BWA 148k km mileage, no oil issues
-new K04 Turbocharger,
-new S3 injectors,
-new HPFP Loba motorsport
-new intercooler from S3
- new custom DP + Exhaust 3” with outs cat
-new spark plugs (NGK PFR7Q)
-new oem DV I PCV,
-new oem valve cover,
-custom intake 2,75” , no problem long term fuel
- and some more new car parts

Compression pressure in each cylinder ~ 14,5bar, no faults cods, car runs perfect, no smoke oil. My tuner says that it is impossible to create more power because engine is cuts ignition timing. In this moment car has about 330HP and 430NM. It drives on 98 octane gas. After I tanked 100 octane the car retards less but still it is a lot.

In my country cars with such stage and 98 octane fuel get to about 350HP and 450NM.

Guys please help me…

Logs on 98 octane fuel 4th and 5 gear:

I don't see much wrong there.  It's not a lot of timing retard and KO4 engines run 9.8:1 compression, you are running 10.3:1 compression, so you have to expect a bit of detonation.

Bosch's retard strategy on MED7 was units of retard = 0.75 degree, so for example. -3.8 KW x .75 = 2.85 degrees.  Is MED9 the same? If it is, then your numbers are small.

330hp is still good power.  Assuming the engine has been timed correctly, then get your tuner to reduce the timing until it stops retarding.  It's better to have safe power than put a hole in a piston.

I would also fit NGK BKR7EIX.  I've not heard of your plugs before.
