What turbo to buy
« on: April 18, 2017, 08:54:54 pm »
Need a turbo for my GT TDI  so there is only two viable options, the stealers are out so do you go for the more attractive price of one coming from a car on a 100k plus and take the gamble or go for a double the price recon unit ,what's peeps experience on this ?

I'd get a recon for peice of mind. Only an extra couple hundred quid usually. Saves on possible labour if a used ones goes pop

If it's a BKD, you might only be waiting a few months for a 100k va to throw its guts.

Take Dan's advice.

I have no experience with this company, but it's where I was looking when I was going to change my turbo. I had head problems before the turbo gave up though so went another route :/

195 quid for BKD

Google reviews look solid. Maybe others on the forum have suggestions?

Good luck

I have just had a recon with lifetime warranty fitted to my BKD Changes noticed police siren gone and wheeziness. It was putting out a lot of smoke when on WOT but this has reduced considerably. In my case the car pulls better. From ECP, no price sorry as I didnt fit myself. Be aware there are two different makes you can get. Onstartup car but out a plum of blue smoke. After turbo fitted still the same, but the car has done 165k

100k on the BKD isn't much!  :signLOL:

I got mine running soon 215k I think... Also doing some engine upgraded and the next step is the darkside develpments turbo kit with the 2260 or 2056 turbo.

They also sell stock turbos if you don't want to push for the extra power.

Not on the engine itself. But the number of times I've seen turbo failure on them...!

The same turbo fared a bit better on the old 1.9 130 ASZ, for whatever reason.

Thanks all ,don't really need more power as it's a pretty rapid enough for what I need ,had mine down the garage last week to try and clear " the sticky veins" and it went in to limp mode a couple of times after but not as quick / often as it did before ,had it on the TT course the other day and it had a good drive and behaved ,so how it goes  for now fingers crossed
