OEM stereo upgrade, which seller and where to buy?
« on: April 29, 2017, 08:13:01 pm »
I'm wanting to upgrade the stereo in my MK5 GTI. I want to upgrade it with an OEM RNS510 system but can anyone recommend a reputable system, seller and place to buy other than EBay. There are plenty on eBay but I want to make sure I pick the right system and seller.

Thanks for any advice

There are a few guys on here who have a good rep.

I used Pashka. He supplied and fitted an RCD510DAB a few months ago for a good price.

Will keep my eye on this thread. I've seen RNS510's go for circa £200 on the bay, hoping to pick one up soon.

I will have a Kenwood DNX 521 DAB with iPod connection for sale soon. VW recommended aftermarket headunit that works with MFSW.

Full VCDS Hex + Can.

Hi all. Just joined having just bought a 2005 mk5 gti dsg. Would also like to replace the head with something which includes dab, Bluetooth and nav but seems to be so many android systems on ebay and not sure if they are crap or not. The dnx 521 dab seems like a good option. Would also like to connect a reversing camera. Any help appreciated please. Happy to buy used. In bristol.

Not sure if you have read this but its very helpful. I nearly imported a 330 plus but could not be bothered with the hassle of changing the can gateway on my car and I'm not keen on the double din units anyway.
I ended up putting in a single din pioneer I had in another car.
Good value though.

Thanks. Had a good read through those and looked on Aliexpress. The problem is there are just so many options, even of the same unit. Seemed like the RCD330 PLUS might be a good option, but then seems like if I go with that, my MFSW won't work and I want it to. The most important things for me are:

- just plugging it in without mucking about with the canbus gateway!!
- bluetooth
- ability to connect my phone (Samsung Galaxy S5) and stream music from Spotify, using a spotify app so that I don't have to touch my phone at all (with the new 6 point rule!!).
- DAB
- don't really need a CD player.
- Nav would be nice, but really just use google maps but would be good to have this display on the unit screen rather than my phone

I'd also like to fit a reversing camera and have this displayed on the screen. Actually I would like the unit to come with the camera and all wiring.

Happy to buy from Aliexpress, but don't want to end up with the wrong thing. All in would be good not to spend more than about £200.

Anyone know what would fit the bill please? Many thanks.
