RNS 510 Help!
« on: May 01, 2017, 01:34:26 pm »
just bought a rns 510 stereo off ebay (i own a golf gti mk5 57 plate currently with mfd2)

my sat nav bust in mfd2 hence upgrade, but have a few questions now...

- is it straight plug and play (including maps etc)
- what do i need to have the aux port and a connection for the iphone where the cd changer currently sits)
- sat nav is currently installed on that hard drive... is it worth buying a disc or anything or is there a way of downloading onto a sd card and then putting onto the hard drive when updated maps come out?

Yes, straight fit but you need to find somewhere to mount the GPS receiver.  Most people tuck it up into an area under the top vent.

Aux port connects into the big block connector at the back.  Google it.

Google 'RNS510 nav maps' and there's a tonne of info, ranging from legitimate DVDs from VW for approx. £30, to dodgy copies on flash drives.  Take your pick.

What revision RNS510 did you get?  There have been dozens of updates (suffix letter on the part number) and if yours is old, it might need a firmware update.
