Would this fit my gti?
« on: May 01, 2017, 03:27:18 pm »
Hi guys, picked up my  2007 gti on Thursday and it's got the bog standard radio in, I'd like aux and Bluetooth functions available in the car, however I don't want to spend the earth on a new head unit. I have the multi function steering wheel if it makes any difference.would this fit?

Thanks for any help/ info

Dave

I am pretty sure that that unit will be absolute garbage.

Yep.  At that price, it couldn't be anything other than complete rubbish with these "features".

If you want to keep it cheap, i.e. around that price, then I just picked up one of these for an old Passat I just bought :  http://www.halfords.com/technology/car-audio/dab-car-stereos/ex-display-kenwood-kdc-bt700dab-digital--car-stereo

At £85 it certainly does the job well enough, has BT, USB, Aux and DAB, and has decent enough sound output for what it is.  They hadn't even wired my one up, so was basically brand new.

Of course, that means converting to Single DIN, and losing your MFSW functions.

You could look for an RCD510 if you would prefer to keep things more OEM, so keep your MFSW buttons, but have newer features such as USB, Aux, DAB etc...  Or the RCD330 adds Carplay I believe and possibly Bluetooth (can also be added to RCD510), but these don't have Nav integrated.

The best / cheapest option, whilst retaining OEM is the RNS-315.  You're probably looking around the £300 mark, but will give you basically everything.  Nav, Bluetooth, DAB, OEM integration, everything.  But then it is obviously 6 times what you are looking to spend on that awful thing you linked.

Thanks for your input guys. I've no idea why it's linked that stereo! The one I was looking at was a single din alpine head unit  :stupid:

Do you have highline clocks and if so does it display nav info on the dash?
