No idea what that is chris, i just checked each control module and the only thing i could pick up was the engine,  which had no faults, i have been through every other entry, like radio, but it tries 4 times then says error.

Hm.. Got some pictures if the screen you're getting? And is it an original Ross Tech cable?

Maybe your canbus is f***ed if it doesn't answer the VCDS. - You do turn on the ignition when you connect the cable right?

I can get some pics tomorrow, the lead i use was just a cheap one off ebay, i used to use the same lead on my mk4 gti, dident have any problems, and yes, the ignition is on when trying to scan, i can scan the engine module, but any of the others just time out

Unless its a genuine cable you have very limited functions due to mk5 being full canbus systems

Yeah would also say it's the cable or the canbus there isn't working.

The can bus can get toasted, I know from expience.. But it's not likely that this is the problem with you.

Source someone out with a genuine cable and try get them to scan and see if the problem is still there.. If it is - Then i got a "AM" revison canbus you can buy ;)

It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.

No worries, I don't think the first post has been updated very recently so if you can't get hold of them then there may be more people further through the thread that are close to you.
