B6 Passat alloy hubs
« on: May 12, 2017, 01:05:24 pm »
Quick question, when on the lookout for B6 ally hubs does it matter which engine car they are from?

Cheers
Steve

Ideally get a pair of them from the same seller as they will likely have come off the same car, for consistency.   I didn't fancy a left one from one car and a right one from a different car.

I paid £25 each and they came with bearings, backing plates, ABS sensors and cable/pipe brackets, so ready to bolt on!   Although I am super picky and replaced the wheel bearings on mine!

Thats exactly what ive been trying to do Pudding. Trawled through loads recently and trying to find a matching pair that arent covered in hammer rash is tricky. Going to have them shot blasted aswell. Found some SKF wheel bearing assemblies for £50 which i thought was pretty good so im going to do them aswell.  :smiley:

Yeah I know that the alloy is ligther than the cast iron.

I'm upgrading my own wishbones to B6 alloys instead of the stock mk5 cast iron ones.. That's why the tittle got my interested in the first place ;)

But the "hub" part is where/what on the car?

@Christiank

Awesome - Thanks..
I'll go track down some of these for my own car. Now since I'm doing the B6 alloy wishbones I might get these aswell.

Anything to look for or aften when I'll try track down such pairs?

Just to see them in the flesh as it were, these are the 'hubs'.  They have other names like 'Bearing housing' and 'Steering knuckle'.

I think you save 4-5kg per side with these hubs and the Passat wishbones.  The cast hubs are super heavy!

exodus_ste - definitely avoid hammered ones!!!  Unlike the cast hubs, you absolutely cannot whack them with a hammer to free off the tie rod end.  Seen people do it and it can f'ck the hub!  Need a proper ball joint splitter  :happy2:

Great. Maybe you could tell me the part numbers @Pudding?
Do you bought genuine bearings or some aftermarket? Going to put some now ones on mine when I'll have this work done
