Easiest Way to Access Canbus?
« on: May 22, 2017, 09:43:47 pm »
Hi, I need to upgrade my canbus to work with my new stereo and I understand mine is above the accelerator pedal. There's no chance I'm getting my shovel hands up in the gap to change this so are there any other ways to access? I heard of someone going via the wipers? Also could you remove the lower drivers side dash to get to it? Thanks.

What year is your car?
Later models had the canbus behind the cubby box...
Without traction power is nothing!

There you go, wiper access route

Hmmm 15 mins? That sounds just the trick, thanks. I guarantee it will be more like 6 hours with my luck with this type of thing :)

Loads of extra's and retro fits.

^I guarantee I will either break my wipers, fingers, windscreen, or all three...or succeed in the dismantling only to find the canbus wasn't even located there

what year is your car as it can be there, or above the clutch peddle area or worse case I have heard of it under the ashtray which is near the Airbag module.
Loads of extra's and retro fits.

I find the cubby one easier than above clutch pedal. I go in from the cubby drawer, remove it, move the relays to the side by releasing them from the tabs, and then the canbus is straight ahead. Pull it back towards you, undo the red plug and then swap over with new and then reverse of removal. In my opinion I think it'd quicker than wiper motor route.

Wiper method for me too, especially if fitting a Polar FIS.  There's no way I was getting my hands up behind there either.

No way 15 mins.  30 is pushing it as well even for expert level who's done it a few times.

Had a poke around today trying to find this. Couldn't see anything obvious when poking around under and around the cubby/pedals. Checked it wasn't by the ashtray and it didn't seem to be. Looked again above pedals and did see some kind of red connector in the distance so gonna assume it's there and have a proper look via the wiper.
