Got scammed on the REVO BBK
« on: May 23, 2017, 10:16:07 pm »
 and without knowing so please don't have a go at me for it  :sad1:

Managed to fit them after a bolt snapping in the bracket  BUT

Brake pads have been shaved to fit so wrong pads altogether which I obviously didn't know about as the description in the sale post didn't state this!!! I've paid £75 quid for new pads too ffs
Discs don't fit as picture shows below unless I've got the wrong parts on my car!!! The balljoint has been touching grounded and ground the F out the inner side of disc and the disc has been shaved off at some point too which wasn't mentioned as I recall the sale post saying no lip in four years use!!

Were these the unpainted ones sold on here last week?

Seems odd they don't fit as he claimed to have had them on an a/s3 iirc? It's like the offset of the disc must be wrong unless you've been supplied the wrong balljoints?

I take it the balljoints are new?

Gutted for you if the discs are wrong.

thanks for the replies Richie, yes the balljoints are new but having said that I have S3 wishbones fitted with super pro lift kit so could that be the reason they're touching?. I've no idea which is why I've posted here  :sad1:

Ps he did say they were off his S3 and I've fitted or tried to fit them to my gti mk5 and thankfully I was fitting one side at a time so the left side caught it before I got screwed totally whilst driving home this evening  :surprised:

Thanks

Don't think the wishbones would cause it cos as far as I'm aware the s3 wishbones are the same but alloy, if they were longer they would have to alter camber and as far as I'm aware they don't.

I'd double check the part numbers on the balljoints and maybe swap the left hand and right hand balljoints round as they are "sided"

ive got the correct one to the correct side as they don't fit the other way round so it's not that, someone did mention S3 wishbones poke the wheel out a little more but not sure myself tbh with you. I wonder of the S3 hubs might make a difference

I've not done balljoints on a mk5 yet so wasn't sure if they fitted the opposite way. Fitting mine tomorrow.

I've seen folk say the Passat alloy hubs widen the track by 5mm so might be worth trying but it all depends on which part of the hub is wider.

I'm now stuck as I don't wish to keep forking out on things without being 100% sure what it is!!! These discs are pushed in quite a bit from looking at them so my guess would be the S3 hubs but again don't want to take a chance and getting it wrong. Me and a friend think it could be the wishbone so going to try that first as o still have my old ones in his lock up.
Gosh what a dilemma

Aye that's the thing mate, you can't really just keep throwing parts it it but having said that Passat hubs are not dear, don't know about s3 stuff.

Trying the cast wishbones is a good start.

Have you spoken to the seller about how he had them fitted?

So sorry to hear about this, I nearly bought them too as I asked if they would fit my Mk6 R. Hope you can get in touch with the seller.

Suspect the standard arms will fix it... read plenty of times on S3 pages that they swap to the cast GTI stuff due to more brake fitment options.... Chin up

Alloy wishbones from a S3/Passat are the same size as the Golf's cast ones. It's the TT mk2 that has wider alloy wishbones. The S3/Passat alloy hubs are also the same size as the cast ones. Just thicker on the inside of the brake caliper bracket.

The S3/Passat ball joint is a just a bit different than the Golf ball joint, making the wishbone more angled. Not sure if that would make any great deal of difference.

The SuperPro anti-lift kit adds caster to the wheels, I don't think it makes any difference to the brake disc clearance.

I had some rubbing with SuperPro ball joints on my MB ML450 discs when almost on full lock, either side, and hard cornering. Grinding the ball joints didn't solve the issue. Reverted to OEM ball joints. Later fitter alloy wishbones and S3/Passat ball joints with no rubbing issues.

Alloy hubs aren't compatible with my Brembo 18Z calipers due to the hub being thicker on the inside of the caliper bracket.
