Fair price for 06 GTi?
« on: February 03, 2010, 08:20:28 am »
I'm having no luck thus far selling the 330ci coupe privately so been looking around at trading it in.

Seen an 06 GTi, Reflex Silver, DSG, leather, CD changer, 18" Monza II's , 29k miles - vw dealer wants £15k.  Looking through the info in the paperwork I've noticed they have had it on the forecourt since July 09 so deal may be poss!

Only offered me £6500 for bmw...  :sad1:

I've been out the GTi scene for a long time, is this too much to pay?  Not seen much in dealers in the spec I want.

Cheers

John

Cheers, my thoughts as well, told them as much when I left the dealership.  Havent stopped calling me since, just want to gauge opinions on what I should go back and offer them.  If 330 doesnt sell this weekend I'll put in a silly offer, they have already got a buyer for the 330 anyway.

If that GTi has been around since July then maybe there is a reason for it that you aren't seeing.

Me personally would move on.

To be fair, the market was completely on its arse back then, so it's no real guide. By the same token, everyone is overpricing at the moment, so forecourts are no guide either.

I'd be looking at why they've had it so long, not the price. GTIs are selling and selling well - could well be a lemon/import.

Or maybe they just weren't prepared to lower the price? Some dealers dont have a clue about their over-pricing and would rather keep a car for 6 months than do the normal thing and reduce the price to suit the current market.

Thanks for input guys, my gut feeling is leave well alone, I would rather spend less anyway, most I was going to offer them was circa £13k.  Didnt think about the possibility of an import, good shout.

I've seen a private sale today, £10500 for one owner 05 plate, 60k miles, DSG, leather, looks good.  Might look at this as I have just had a solid enquiry about the bmw this morning, making all the right noises about buying it, fingers crossed.

By the way, negating the price, it wouldn't matter a jot if it was an import, particularly if it's from a dealer and covered by a warranty.

I agree it shouldn't make a jot of difference, but it does if the spec is different, which they can be. No dual zone climate etc. It could also be a MY05 and registered 12-18 months later in the UK.

Your average punter wouldn't give it a second thought, but I wouldn't buy a grey import personally.

My GTI was a parallel import and was PDI'd in Germany 10 days before being registered in the UK - it was exactly the same spec as a UK car. Imports either inevitably poverty spec or huge spec, you'll also find most imports have a similar spec as some options were big money over here but relatiuvely affordable in the EU. Cruise is a typically good pointer for an import

I Bought my gti for 12750 in october 08 and sold it last week to a trader for 12k having put another 20k miles on it with a declared £2k's worth of faults with bald tyres and needing a service& DSG service......

Dec 2006 (56) GTi 3dr DSG Black/Black leather/sat nav/winter pack/auto lamps and wipers/tpm/18's/colour coded.....38k miles

They are beginning to get good money again

My Tornado Red 56 plate with 22k miles was £13,100 with a years rent from a main dealer in Sept 2009. Got the autolights only. That was the best deal around at the time. There were similar cars ar two other dealers for 15k with the same age spec and mileage.

The dealer that bought my old car still has it on his forecourt!!
