MK6 GTI HELP!!!
« on: June 02, 2017, 02:13:18 am »
Hi peeps! Im in a bit of a sticky situation, i have a mk6 gti manual 2009, its had the timing chain replaced with all genuine parts with new spark plugs and a full service. However the car seems to be misfiring and idling rough, on the go it seems fine but also struggles to start as well. I had the timint chain checked again and its timed correctly as vcds was showing it was bang on as well. The cam chain seems fine too but im kind of stuck. Was hoping someone could help a fellow out. I've uploaded the faults that have shown up. If i clear the codes it struggles to start again and they
come back after driving it.

All of those errors point to bad timing, especially the first one.  And if they keep coming back after clearing them, I'm afraid your mechanic needs to get back in there and double and triple check things.  Was the timing kit genuine, or ebay junk? If the latter, the tensioner could be a piece of crap and not doing it's job.

The timing chain was bought from tps so it was genuine, the first mechanic who actually fitted it timed it wrong, so i took it to another who timed it again and said it was correct, a vagcom lad checked the timing blocks and said they were all spot on. My mechanics now telling me that the head needs to come off and the valves are bent so im not sure now

Well that would certainly explain some rough running!  If only the chain was replaced, maybe the original tensioner is the cause.  Need to replace all of it really as the tensioner was superseded some time ago.

Bent valves would explain the rough running, I'd do a compression test first before I started ripping it all apart to see if that is the cause. Good luck.
