A/C
« on: June 06, 2017, 02:54:57 pm »
My climate control stays on all the time generally around 22 degrees, during a recent warm spell I turned down to low. It was my wife who pointed out that the air was far from cold especially compared to her car. My question is before I take to garage is this likely to be just I need of a re gas or are there any signs and symptoms for a possible compressor fault? Car is 2007 07 60k. Cheers

First step is a fault code scan.  One of the pressure switches are common for going, I can't remember if it's the high or low side one that goes.

Best case scenarios are a knackered condenser, needs a regas or has a gas leak.  Worst case is a knackered pump, but usually you would know about that as they make a lot of noise, or shred belts etc.

Might sound obvious but the Air con works when the ac light is OFF on the dial. I mistakenly thought mine wasnt working as when i pressed the dial and the light was on, i assumed that ment it was activated. When i pressed it again so the ac light was off, the cold air came through.. backwards i know.

Never seen that before. My A/C comes on when you press the A/C button and it illuminates.

Earlier golfs had the eCon button, short for economy. Turn it on (illuminated)and it switches the AC off. No light = AC on. Later models had the AC button.

Oh I was just confused as he said the AC light and not the econ button.
