Air Con off Milk
« on: June 19, 2017, 01:34:46 pm »
Hi Guys,

Using aircon now that this glorious weather is about and it smells like off milk, seriously it does!

I think maybe the previous owner didnt mention something when they sold me the car.

Ive had the car almost 4 years and this is the first time I have used the aircon.

I have used a megs aircon clean kit but that lasted a week and now the off milk smell has come back.

Any ideas on how to clear it out? It is like theyve poured milk down the vents and left it there

I think there is a filter you can change but you should really use it more than once every 4 years. That is probably more the cause of the smell not the previous owner

Yeah they should be used every now and again to keep everything running good.

And you might just have a load of bacteria inside your unit so wouldn't advise using it till you have taken it somewhere to have a full system clean.

I agree, try and use it once a week.

One of this might help

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Comma-AIRCC-150ml-Air-Cleaner/dp/B000ZBOPVO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1497887725&sr=8-3&keywords=air+con+cleaner

Might be worth you getting a full AC re-gas and clean, I goto mine done at ATS for just under £60.

Replace the pollen filter then try another aircon bomb. Comma do quite a good one.

Apologies for this useless interjection, but I couldn't help sharing this - considering the theme of the thread.

Mate of mine 'lost' a pint bottle of milk a week or so ago.

He found it a few days ago. In his car. With his nose...

Anyway. As you were...

Mate of mine did the same in his mk1, my god, the smell was horrendous!! Worse in the summer!! One of the reasons why he sold it on lol
In a mk1?! That's something else. This is a knackered old Astra. Might have been worth 300 quid BEFORE this happened

Oh yes!! Hilarious part was he thought the smell went after a while...until almost every time someone jumped in his car the first thing they asked was "what the f*ck is that smell?!"
Yeah your mate might as well burn the trashtra and call it day
He's pretty much come to that conclusion... that's not far off what I've told him
