How Much Should I Expect To Pay For Standard Discs & Pads
« on: July 03, 2017, 04:43:25 pm »
Hi,

I picked up a new PCV at the weekend from TPS, while I was there I asked for a quote for discs and pads all round and was given a price of effectively £385.  I thought this was quite a lot for standard parts, but I could be wrong?!

Anyway, just wondering where others have got decent standard brake set ups (doesn't have to be VW, could be other makes, Pagid etc etc.)?

I've had a look at EuroCarparts, but from reading on here and speaking to a few people, when you put your registration in to search for parts it quite often gets the wrong parts and you need to end up sending these back.  I would rather just get the correct parts first time.

I have a 2006 standard GTi.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mtec j hook discs and, say, EBC red pads would come in at @£200 plus an hour or so to fit. Mine seem to bite pretty well with a bit of heat in them and have no side effects wrt noise / dust.

Same as colesy, I got mtec discs and EBC redstuff pads for not too much at all. R32 fronts and standard rears. Easy to fit (except those bloody rear caliper bolts) and I've had no complaints with them whatsoever. Only used on the road

Vw fixed price for brakes is £264 for fronts and £264 for rears, you also get lifetime brakes where VW will pay for your pads for life once you buy the initial set, you simply pay for the discs and the labour the next time around.

Edit: I'm a service advisor at a VW dealer.
Fixed price only applies to vehicles with up to 2ltr engines

Hi mate,

I can do cambelt on it's own for £399 (normal fixed price is £434) or cambelt and water pump for £449 (normal fixed price is £484)

DSG service is usually £184, I could probably go to £164, maybe a little bit more off

Cheers

Thanks for the replies guys.  Noticed that Mtec seem to only do drilled, grooved etc brake discs.  I always remember having either grooved, or drilled or possibly both brake discs in the past and them being noisy.  Is this the case with these?  Also have people fitted red stuff pads on the rear or just Mintex?

Stick to OEM unless you're tracking or regularly driving like a loon on public roads.  The pads for life deal at VW seems pretty good!
