Started the GTI this morning....
« on: December 27, 2008, 11:13:56 am »
not a very cold morning on the scale of things, first time i have driven it in about a week and a half, Turned over and conked out, then ran very lumpy, missing really badly

I stuck with it for a min and it cleared up then drove fine, my wife is about to take it out now so ive got my head out the window...

... started fine  :happy2:

so what the hell was that about, should i be worried  :scared:

Could be the PCV..

Disconnect the hose which plugs into the inlet manifold and whilst its running block off the inlet manifold with your finger, if it suddenly runs perfect then thats your problem..

Generally if its the PCV then once its running bad it would stay like that though..

Yeah about as common as the DV's breaking up.. Could be worth taking a look at that also..

A broken DV diaphragm would also give a very uneven idle on cold start.. Sounds almost like your running really lumpy cams??

I would think more likely cold and damp were the cause - I wouldn't worry about it unless it does it again.

^^^^

I doubt it's anything as complicated as the DV or PCV from standstill - It wouldn't have run fine after starting.

I've had a very similar problem - They don't like being left for more than a week without running and it's a common battery issue with the Mk5 GTI so I've heard.

That'll teach ya not to use her!!
