Stereo Upgrade
« on: May 25, 2017, 10:58:31 pm »
Wondering if anyone cold help/advise.

I've just bought a 2005 GTI and it has this installed with a 6 disc changer in the armrest although that throws up an error and will not work.

I'd like to change it for something (VW preferable) that would except a SD card and poss phone connection although not sure if I'd have to install a microphone??

If someone could advise that'd be great

RNS315 is the obvious upgrade from there.  You should get a DAB one for around £300.  Has built in Bluetooth, so that's a bonus.  Should do everything you are looking for.

Alternatively, RNS510.  It's the top one, but doesn't have BT.  You need a new one for DAB too, so around £400.  For BT you can either go for a Fiscon or Parrot.  OEM is too expensive usually.

Either way, you will likely need a new CAN Gateway.  Usually around £50 coded, or you can pick them up for £30 or so on ebay and code yourself.

If you are happy enough with the nav system (easy enough to upgrade firmware, apply "crack" and burn latest maps), you could just add a Parrot system, letting you get your BT, USB, SD + Ipod.

I fit one of those cheap Chinese Bluetooth adapters to that stereo on mine the other day, works perfectly for audio streaming

After reading another post on here I'm temped to purchase one of these

https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Car-6-5-MIB-UI-Radio-RCD510-RCN210-RCD330-RCD330G-Plus-For-Golf-5-6-Jetta/523203_32722343695.html?spm=2114.12010612.0.0.mJU6tB

which would give me all the feature I'm after. I take it I'd also have to upgrade the CAN Bus with this as I have a 2005 car?

Anyone have any experience or purchased one of these?

Thanks
