Anyone else locked out of all the images??
« on: July 04, 2017, 10:48:44 pm »
Hey guys,

Is anyone else getting the message, on all images on the forum, that they need to upgrade to a "Photobucket 500" account in order to view third-party images??

The "500" account costs $399 per year??

What's going on?

Some kind of scam? Just me affected??

Cheers in advance.
Dave

Just went through this as well. Had to copy all of my PB pics onto the laptop and then reload them on flickr...but not going to go through my hundreds of posts and reload pics again. PB had soooo many ads interfering with activity of my own pics as it was...how are they hurting for more money with all those ads? $3.99usd/mo. is just an unworthy hassle for users already dealing with constant and multiple ad interference. end rant.

Thanks for the replies guys
I also saw Dave J's post on this topic
What a nightmare - locked out of soooo much useful and important information
Really cruel of them to do this with no warning
@Ron Echt - they want $300 per year it seems for "members" on this side of the water

The figure is so close to the recent viral ransom software we have had here in Europe that I originally thought it must have been another case of ransom software!!

It seems it is!! But in this case it's an actual business model that is based on ransom tactics!!

Disgraceful - they must have received their inspiration from the cyber terrorists  :sad1:

Fortunately, I didn't have much on photobucket.... only used for sharing.

I noticed it was 'painful' about 2 weeks ago, when I uploaded pics of a 60th wedding party, to share to relatives.
They couldn't access the pictures, I then tries on another device and was bombarded with pop ups, virus hoaxes, "I need to scan my PC"
Logged in and properly and it was horrendously slow, took several attempts to refresh but every time got 4 adverts.

Took me a day to create a folder called photo bucket, on my folder, then folders with all album names and my duplicate photobucket on PC.
Then deleted everything on photobucket.

Photobucket is crap anyway.  Slow as hell and full of adverts.  I was going to move my stuff over at some point anyway, but I guess I have to now

Haha. Im in the process now Dave, taking it easy and taking my time with it as I have to wait for my ECU to come back from r-tech anyway. I have only just started cleaning the first set of valves! So much gunk in the injector ports - grim! The only really carbon build up is on the valve stems to be honest.

Good times buddy  :happy2: :happy2:

Best of luck with it...

The next time I do it I think I'm gonna go with a home made walnut blaster as per v4rley's recent post on the "how to" thread.... looks like the right job!!

Oh, and guess what.... there's no more photos on the how to thread!!
Pricks!!

I'll update it with Flickr images when I can :happy2:

My PB images still aren't working. I know someone said on the thread I started in random cat whether it was due to the age of the account. My account was set-up in 2006. I've moved all my photos to my Flikr account and will need to update my build thread on here.

Sadly I can't be hassled to update my build thread on ukmkivs.net on my mkiv, which is a shame as it was good to reminisce about the fun I had with my 1.8t before it was written off. I expect there will be many historic useful 'how-to' guides all over the net that will be lost as people have moved on from certain forums and they won't update them.

The contempt I have for Photobucket is immeasurable for the way they have acted.
