Cam belt and water pump cost
« on: September 16, 2017, 09:07:06 am »
Need to get this done soon and wondered what the going rate is roughly?

Last time I had it done was £300 but guessing prices have gone since then.
Not phoned VW dealer yet bit guessing it's going to be high.

I can buy the parts from TPS for £156 And they'll also give me something like £23 back for the water pump so wondering whether to do this and get a garage to fit.

I'm a bit OCD about who works in my car and last time I took it to Statlers in Sheffield.
Happy to do this again if I can't find a good reputable place closer. Any recommendations near Derby way?

£399 fixed price at the dealer.  Fixed is the important bit as there are about £40-£50 in 'sundries' (stretch bolts and other bits) the customers don't get charged for.  Most back street garages will reuse the bolts and generally only use genuine parts if you instruct them to.

Also the main thermostat is popular for failing on this model, see what the price is with that job included (part around £37.00) and that would be a great saving.

Main Dealers in Kent were £480 so it sounds like it depends on where you live in the country.

Either way, it's only going to get more expensive because of Brexit and wages stagnating......

It's easy enough to do yourself if you have the tools and space...... just depends how much you value your time.
