ABS & ESP lights on (vagcom log)
« on: July 10, 2017, 06:41:00 am »
A while ago a friend messed up my ECU by trying to code me a new key on the cheap... Needless to say it messed a fair few things up but anyway we got the ECU working again and now I have an issue where the ABS & ESP lights stay on.
I've already changed the steering controller and the squib thing that goes over the steering spline, neither of those worked.
My brakes work fine, but I can tell I don't have ABS or ESP

From your post I assume you either have VCDS or have access to it.
You need to use it to do the steering angle reset procedure.
Search on the RossTech forum for the steps (or search this site as it's been posted on here before).
Is your power steering working? ie does the steering feel heavy?

I've done the procedure countless times, at least I'm pretty sure I've done it correctly...

Once I changed the steering sensor obviously the steering feels heavy, but after5 minutes of driving it suddenly kicks in and goes light again and feels like normal. The steering isn't out of line, when turning corners it returns back to its original position, the adaptive steering is fine too.
But, I plug vcds in and look at the steering angle and it says 0.0 degrees. No matter where or how much I turn the steering wheel... it's so annoying, I'm OCD as hell and I hate lights being on my dash

I've just noticed a bit of information on rosstech that may have given me the solution!

Quote
Check all Adaptation values in the #44-Steering Assist controller.
Verify all of the WSS (Wheel Speed Sensor) values are plausible in the 03-ABS controller! We received feedback from both Mk70 equipped and MK60 ESP equipped (1K) Golf models with 02546 and 00778 DTCs that would not clear due to a faulty WSS. Even if a WSS DTC is not stored it would be advised to log or graph MVB 001 while driving.

I haven't yet checked into this 02546 fault so maybe this is the issue!
I will update this post once I get home and plug vcds in and check

Check he hasn't messed with the coding, as the sensor location changed depending on the generation of steering rack the sensor moved from the column to the rack itself, if the coding is wrong then its essentially looking in the wrong place for a reading

The steering sensor is under the steering collumn in my car, I don't think he changed any coding but if he has I wouldn't even know how to go about correcting it

This:

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/VW_Golf_(1K)_Steering_Assist
I've done the procedure countless times, at least I'm pretty sure I've done it correctly...

Once I changed the steering sensor obviously the steering feels heavy, but after5 minutes of driving it suddenly kicks in and goes light again and feels like normal. The steering isn't out of line, when turning corners it returns back to its original position, the adaptive steering is fine too.

I don't think that's the right procedure, it's this one: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/VW_Golf_(1K)_Brake_Electronics_(MK60)#Sensor_for_Steering_Angle_.28G85.29 followed by http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/VW_Golf_(1K)_Steering_Assist#Steering_Limit_Stop_Adaptation

There's a note on that second page that says:
Quote
If the 02546 - Steering Limit Stop 005 - No or Incorrect Basic Setting / Adaptation fault will not clear after driving the vehicle and completing the VW Golf (1K) Steering Assist procedure:
Increase the time in-between key cycles to 30 seconds or more.

Which covers every code OP is seeing except 01309.

The one linked above says: Important Note: This procedure ONLY applies to Models with Conti/Teves MK70 ABS/ASR.
And OP's log says: Address 03: ABS Brakes        Labels: 1K0-907-379-MK60-F.lbl
