Coolant/antifreeze
« on: July 12, 2017, 10:44:14 am »
Hi guys

Looking to change my intercooler this weekend and will be disconnecting my radiator in the process. So how much coolant/antifreeze will be required, also is any g12 stuff ok or does it's have to be from main dealer.
Last question what mix 50/50 coolant/distilled water.

I think it's 8L but that's just a guess based on my last invoice for coolant

G13 is the latest VW specified coolant but any old G12 is fine.

Each coolant is different, some are pure and require 50:50 mix and some are already premixed.

My G12 is actually premixed which is handy as it saves me looking around for distilled water.

Euros or CP4L sell G13 (non-genuine) and de-ionised water. I'd buy a 5litre concentrate bottle and 5L of water, mix it 50:50 and you'll have plenty

I normally mix up G13 in a 5 litre container, 50-50, then just bung it into the expansion tank with the engine running until it's full and bled out fully.

I stick with the dealer coolant as they keep revising it to add lubricants and rust inhibitors to extend water pump life etc.

Thanks for the info much appreciated. Also when filling with the coolant does the radiator need bleeding or just let the engine run with the expansion cap off and top up as needed.
Euro sells trippel qx g13 anygood.

Yep, exactly that.  When the thermostat opens, you'll see the water level start to rise.  Screw the cap on at that point.  Check and top up the following morning. Job done  :happy2:
